Minnesota, University of, is a state-supported coeducational institution. Its largest and oldest campus, the Twin Cities campus, is in Minneapolis-St. Paul. The university also has campuses in Crookston, Duluth, Morris, and Rochester. The University of Minnesota was chartered in 1851 as a preparatory school. The school closed during the American Civil War (1861-1865) and reorganized as a four-year college in 1868.
