Competition Commission

Competition Commission is an independent organization that investigates business conditions in the United Kingdom. The organization carries out inquiries involving monopolies, corporate mergers, and the regulation of utilities. The commission was established by the Competition Act of 1998. The Competition Act prohibits certain actions that eliminate or reduce competition, abuse of a dominant business position, or bad effects on trade within the United Kingdom. The Competition Commission replaced the Monopolies and Mergers Commission in 1999.
