Moonstone is a whitish variety of the mineral called feldspar (see Feldspar). Moonstone can be cut and used as a gem. It is a birthstone for June. Light will shine through it, but not so clearly as through glass. The stone also reflects light with a bluish to pearly-colored sheen that comes from inside the stone. Moonstones may also be beige-brown, black, brown, green, orange, or reddish. Sri Lanka produces many moonstones. They are also found in Australia, Brazil, India, Madagascar, Myanmar, and the United States.
