Morgantown

Morgantown (pop. 30,347; met. area pop. 140,038), the home of West Virginia University, lies on the Monongahela River in northern West Virginia. The United States Department of Energy and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health operate research facilities in Morgantown. High technology and health care also contribute to the economy. Colonel Zackquill Morgan founded the city about 1766. It was known as Morgan’s Town when it was chartered in 1785. It has a council-manager government.
