Morton, John (1724-1777), was a Pennsylvania signer of the Declaration of Independence. He served in the Continental Congress from 1774 to 1777. Although trained as a surveyor, Morton’s greatest achievements were in politics and law. He began his political career in 1756 as a member of the Pennsylvania Assembly, where he served for 17 years. He was also one of the colony’s four delegates to the Stamp Act Congress in 1765. In 1774, he became an associate judge of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Morton was born in Ridley, Pennsylvania. He died on April 1, 1777.
