Mount Ararat

Mount Ararat << AR uh rat >> is a mountain in eastern Turkey near Lake Van. According to Biblical tradition, Noah’s Ark landed there after the Great Flood (Genesis 6-8). However, the earliest artifacts archaeologists have discovered on Ararat date from early Christian times, thousands of years after the Great Flood would have occurred. The mountain, also called Agri Dagi, is the highest peak in Turkey. Scholars believe that for Biblical writers, Ararat probably symbolized the edge of the known world. The mountain rises 16,946 feet (5,165 meters).
