Mundine, Tony (1951-…), an Australian Aboriginal boxer, won the Australian middleweight title in 1970, the Commonwealth middleweight title in 1972, and the Australian heavyweight title in 1972. He fought for the world middleweight title in 1974 but was knocked out in the seventh round by champion Carlos Monzon of Argentina. Mundine retired in 1975 but came back later as a light heavyweight. He won the Australian and Commonwealth titles in that division the same year. In 1977, he won the Australian heavyweight title again. When he retired in 1984, he left three Australian titles vacant. Tony Mundine was born in Barylgil, New South Wales. Anthony Mundine, his son, became a successful boxer.
