National Medical Association (NMA) is a professional organization that represents the interests of African American physicians. It was founded in 1895. The NMA is dedicated to ensuring that all career paths in the field of health care are open to African American physicians; that African Americans are well represented in the medical and health professions; and that quality health care is available and accessible to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay. The NMA publishes periodic reports and the Journal of the National Medical Association, a monthly scientific journal. The association also holds an annual convention. It has national headquarters in Washington, D.C .
