National Republican Party was a political party that arose when the Democratic-Republican Party split during President John Quincy Adams’s Administration (1825-1829). The National Republican Party supported Adams’s Administration, and the split pitted the party against the followers of Andrew Jackson. During Jackson’s presidency (1829-1837), the National Republicans and other groups formed the Whig Party (see Whig Party ).
