National Wildlife Federation is an organization that was founded to create interest and promote public education in the conservation of wildlife and wildlife habitats in the United States. The federation issues several free or inexpensive publications. It also publishes several magazines, including National Wildlife for its adult members; Ranger Rick for younger members; and Your Big Backyard for preschoolers.
State wildlife federations and conservation leagues, made up of local clubs, are affiliated with the national organization. The national group is financed by membership fees, an annual direct-mail distribution of National Wildlife Conservation stamps, and the sale of nature-related items. The National Wildlife Federation began in 1936. Its headquarters are in Reston, Virginia.
