Nature Conservancy is an international conservation organization that saves rare plants and animals from extinction by protecting the places where they live. One of the many ways that the organization accomplishes this goal is to acquire land, which it purchases or receives as a gift.
With hundreds of preserves, the Nature Conservancy owns and manages the largest private system of nature sanctuaries in the world. Its Pine Butte Swamp Preserve in western Montana contains the site of the world’s first discovery of baby dinosaurs in nests.
The Nature Conservancy was founded in 1951. Since then, it has protected millions of acres or hectares of critical habitats in the United States. It also has helped preserve several million acres in Latin America, including tropical rain forests. It publishes The Nature Conservancy Magazine, a journal issued four times a year. The organization’s headquarters are in Arlington, Virginia.
