Nereids

Nereids, << NIHR ee ihdz >>, were 50 beautiful sea nymphs who attended the sea divinities Poseidon and Amphitrite. They were the daughters of the sea goddess Doris and of Nereus, called the Old Man of the Sea. The Nereids lived under the sea and surfaced to dance in the waves. Their leader was Thetis, mother of the hero Achilles. Other famous Nereids included Psamathe and Galatea.
