New York University

New York University, often referred to as NYU, is a private institution of higher education in New York City. The university is not associated with any religion. NYU is one of the largest privately supported universities in the United States. The university was founded in 1831. New York University is made up of a number of schools and colleges that operate at various centers in the borough of Manhattan. NYU’s engineering school, the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, is in neighboring Brooklyn.

The main NYU campus is around Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village. The Institute of Fine Arts is near the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the Upper East Side. The university operates a medical complex on the east side of Manhattan. The university’s sports teams are called the Violets.
