Naval Station Norfolk, << NAWR fuhk, >> Virginia, employs more people and harbors more ships than any other naval base in the United States.It includes the headquarters of the Navy’s Fleet Forces Command, the Marine Corps Forces Command, and the Navy’s Operational Test and Evaluation Force. Commissioned in 1917, the base houses the Joint Forces Staff College and the oldest supply center in the Navy. The base covers about 5,000 acres (2,000 hectares). Nearby are the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek–Fort Story, a weapons station at Yorktown, and a shipyard at Portsmouth.
