Onager, << ON uh juhr, >> is the name of a fast-running relative of the donkey. It is the wild ass mentioned in the Bible. The onager travels in herds on the hot, dry plains of west-central Asia. Its color varies from cinnamon-brown in summer to yellow-brown in winter. A yellow patch covers each thigh, and a broad black stripe runs along its back. The onager also has a mane and a tuft of hair at the end of its tail. It stands about 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall at the shoulder.
