Oregon grape is the state flower of Oregon. This wild plant, also called the Oregon holly grape, grows from western Oregon through Washington into British Columbia. Despite its names, the Oregon grape is neither a grape nor a holly. It grows to 2 feet (61 centimeters) tall and does not climb as the wild grape does. The leaves look like those of the holly, and the wood is yellow. Clusters of yellow flowers open in early summer. The berries ripen late in the fall. They look like grapes or blueberries and are often used for jelly. See also Barberry.
