Patron saint is a saint chosen to protect the interests of a country, place, group, trade or profession, or activity, and to intercede for them in heaven (see Saint ). For example, St. George is the patron saint of England; St. Andrew, of Scotland; St. David, of Wales; and St. Patrick, of Ireland. St. Cecilia is the patron saint of music. St. Michael is the patron saint of police officers, and St. Valentine is the patron saint of lovers.
