Pecos National Historical Park

Pecos National Historical Park, << PAY kuhs or PAY kohs, >> in north-central New Mexico, contains ruins of the ancient pueblo (village) of Pecos. It also includes the remains of two Spanish missions built in the 1600’s and 1700’s. The Pecos ruins became a landmark on the Santa Fe Trail. The site became a national monument in 1965 and was reclassified as a national historical park in 1990. For the area of the park, see National Park System (table: National historical parks) .
