Mount Pelion, << PEE lee uhn, >> is a mountain in Thessaly in Greece. It rises 5,305 feet (1,617 meters) above sea level between Volos and the east coast.
In ancient Greek mythology, Mount Pelion was the home of Chiron the centaur (mythological half-man, half-horse creature), who lived in a cave near its top. The ship Argo was built from trees that grew on the mountain’s sides. The Giants once stacked Mount Pelion on top of Mount Ossa in an attempt to attack the gods.
