Polonaise is a dignified national dance of Poland. The polonaise resembles a stately ceremonial procession and probably originated among the Polish aristocracy in the 1500’s. Many important composers have written polonaises. Probably the best known are the 10 examples for solo piano written by the Polish composer Frédéric Chopin in the early 1800’s.
