Rainier, << ray NEER, >> III (1923-2005) was prince of Monaco from 1949 to 2005. His full name was Rainier Louis Henri Maxence Bertrand de Grimaldi. Rainier married actress Grace Kelly in 1956. The birth of their daughter Princess Caroline the next year delighted Monaco. The couple also had a son, Prince Albert, and a daughter, Princess Stephanie Marie Elisabeth. Rainier’s wife died in 1982 after a car accident near Monaco. As prince, Rainier provided low-cost housing, expanded schools, and tried to balance the budget of his government. Rainier was born on May 31, 1923, in Monaco. He died on April 6, 2005.
