Raisa, Rosa

Raisa, << rah EE suh, >> Rosa (1893-1963), a dramatic soprano, was especially popular for many years with audiences in Italy and Chicago. Born on May 23, 1893, in Bialystok, Poland, she fled from there at the age of 14. She went to Italy and studied singing at the Conservatory of Naples. She was trained by opera singer Eva Tetrazzini. Raisa made her European and American opera debuts in 1913. She died on Sept. 28, 1963.
