Roget, << roh ZHAY or ROZH ay, >> Peter Mark (1779-1869), was a British physician and scholar. He is known as the compiler of Roget’s Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases (1852). This book classifies synonyms or verbal equivalents under many different headings. The work has been revised several times. Roget was born on Jan. 18, 1779, near London. He received a medical degree from the University of Edinburgh and lectured on anatomy and physiology throughout Europe. Roget died on Sept. 12, 1869.
