Rosenberg, Alfred

Rosenberg, << ROH zuhn behrk, >> Alfred (1893-1946), was the philosopher of the German Nazi movement. His Myth of the Twentieth Century (1930) stressed “Aryan” racial superiority and depicted Judaism and Christianity as deadly enemies of the Germanic spirit. He wanted to replace Christianity with a Germanic pagan religion. During World War II (1939-1945), Rosenberg looted the art treasures of France and other Nazi-occupied countries and shipped them to Germany. He was born of German parents in Estonia on Jan. 12, 1893. He became minister for Germany’s eastern occupied territories during the war. Rosenberg pressed for extermination of the Jews. On Oct. 16, 1946, he was executed for war crimes.
