Ross, George

Ross, George (1730-1779), a Pennsylvania lawyer, signed the Declaration of Independence. From 1768 to 1776, he served in the Pennsylvania assembly, where he opposed the governor. He helped draft Pennsylvania’s first constitution in 1776. Ross also served as a delegate to the Continental Congress from 1774 to 1777. In 1779, he was commissioned an admiralty judge of the state of Pennsylvania. He served in the position until his death on July 14, 1779. Ross was born on May 10, 1730, in New Castle, Delaware.
