Royal Society of Canada (RSC) is a national organization that promotes learning and research in the arts and sciences. The organization elects as its members people who have made important contributions in the humanities, sciences, or literature. Fellows and specially elected fellows must be Canadian or have at least three years’ status as Canadian permanent residents. Foreign fellows are neither residents nor citizens of Canada. The RSC also elects honorary fellows from time to time. The society awards medals for achievement and administers scholarships to aid research. It publishes newsletters and annual reports. RSC also publishes annual or semiannual volumes called Transactions and Proceedings containing the proceedings of its conferences and studies on matters of public interest.
