Runnymede, << RUHN ih `meed,` >> is a meadow in England on the south bank of the River Thames, about 36 miles (58 kilometers) southwest of London. At this site in June 1215, the barons of England forced King John to approve Magna Carta, a document that limited the powers of the king.
A monument to Magna Carta was built at Runnymede in 1957. In 1965, a memorial to United States President John F. Kennedy was dedicated there.
