Rutland

Rutland (pop. 15,807) is the third largest city in Vermont. Only Burlington and South Burlington have more people. Rutland lies west of the Green Mountains in central Vermont. Industries in the Rutland area manufacture calcium carbonate products, iron lighting, jet engine parts, and wood products. Ski resorts are an important source of income in the Rutland area. The Rutland Herald, established in 1794, is the oldest continuously published newspaper in Vermont. A mayor and board of aldermen govern Rutland.
