Saint Andrews lies on the east coast of Scotland, between the cities of Edinburgh and Dundee. It is part of the Fife Council Area, which has a population of 371,781. The town is sometimes called the Capital of Golf. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club, founded in St. Andrews in 1754, establishes many of the rules for the game. The oldest university in Scotland, the University of St. Andrews, was founded in the town in 1411.
