Salto, << SAHL toh >> (pop. 104,011), is the second largest city in Uruguay. Only Montevideo has more people. Salto lies in northwestern Uruguay. The city provides an important trading center for the farmers and ranchers of northern Uruguay. Salto is sometimes called the City of Oranges because of its large orange and tangerine groves.
