Sego lily

Sego, << SEE goh, >> lily is one of the mariposa lilies, a group of bright flowering herbs native to western North America. The sego lily is native from Washington to New Mexico. It is the state flower of Utah. The flower grows on a stem about 11/2 feet (46 centimeters) tall. The petals are white, tinted with yellowish-green or lilac, and have a spot of purple at the base. The leaves of the plant are long and thin. The sego lily grows from an underground bulb. The early Mormons in Utah cooked and ate these bulbs.
