Sertoma, << sur TOH muh, >> International is a civic service organization of clubs in Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the United States. Its name comes from the Ser, to, and Ma in the slogan “Service to Mankind.” Membership is made up of professional people. The clubs raise money for scholarships, community service, and the sponsorship of speech and hearing clinics and other projects. They also promote appreciation of national heritage by sponsoring essay contests and distributing copies of historic documents to schoolchildren. The organization was founded in 1912. It has headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri.
