Shore Patrol is an activity of the United States Navy that involves maintaining order among members of the Navy who are on liberty (time off). Much like a police force, the Shore Patrol stops improper conduct and can assist Navy members in need. The Shore Patrol often consists of officers and petty officers who are temporarily reassigned from other duties. They may receive special training for certain tasks. Unlike police officers, Shore Patrol officers are not trained in law enforcement and have no power to enforce civil (nonmilitary) law.
