Sinclair, Sir Clive Marles (1940-2021), was a British pioneer in the development and manufacture of microelectronic equipment. Through his company, Sinclair Research, he became famous during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s for developing advanced, low-priced computers. Sinclair developed many other products, including a type of flat-screen television set.
Sinclair was born on July 30, 1940, in London, England. He left school at the age of 17 and did not pursue a university education. He founded Sinclair Radionics, which he led from 1962 until 1979. In 1979, he became chairman of Sinclair Research. Queen Elizabeth II knighted Sinclair in 1983. He died on Sept. 16, 2021.
