Small Business Administration (SBA), an independent agency of the United States government, promotes and protects the interests of small business companies. It offers aid in the form of loans, counseling, and information on management.
The SBA helps victims of disasters and provides special programs to enable members of minority groups and women to own their own businesses. It ensures that small businesses receive a fair share of government purchases and contracts. The SBA issues numerous publications in various fields of small business. It has offices in principal cities of every state and in Guam and Puerto Rico. Congress created the SBA in 1953.
