Snorri Sturluson

Snorri Sturluson (1179-1241) was a great medieval Icelandic poet and historian. His major works were the Heimskringla (Circle of the World), a history of the kings of Norway from their origins up to his own day, and the Prose Edda. He probably also wrote The Saga of Egill Skallagrimsson, one of the best Icelandic sagas about a great poet of the 900’s who was one of Snorri’s forefathers. Snorri was a wealthy and powerful man in Iceland. In his later years, he became involved in a power struggle in Norway that led to his murder on the orders of the Norwegian king. See also Edda .
