Soil bank was a United States federal government program designed to reduce crop surpluses by taking croplands out of production from 1 to 10 years. The program provided government payments to farmers who agreed to take designated cropland out of production. The bank was adopted in 1956, but was replaced by other programs in the early 1960’s.
