Stonechat

Stonechat is a small bird that makes a call that sounds like two stones being struck together. The stonechat lives in Europe, Asia, and Africa. The male has a black head and throat and chestnut underparts. The female is duller in coloring. The stonechat is restless and active. It usually lives in open, grassy locations. It builds its nest on the ground, under a tuft of grass, and feeds on insect larvae, worms, beetles, and seeds. It lays from three to six greenish-blue, faintly spotted eggs. European and Asian stonechats migrate south for the winter.
