Suzhou

Suzhou, << soo joh >> , (pop. 4,720,000) is an ancient Chinese city known for its canals, gardens, and pagodas (temples). Its name is also spelled Su-chou or Soochow. Suzhou is located in a rich agricultural region in Jiangsu Province, between Nanjing and Shanghai. Suzhou’s factories produce chemicals and machinery. Skilled craftworkers in the city carve jade and weave silks.
