Taylor, Mark

Taylor, Mark (1964-…), was an Australian cricketer. He was a left-handed opening batsman and an occasional medium-pace bowler. In 1994, Taylor became captain of Australia after the retirement of Allan Border. He led Australia to two successive Ashes Test series victories over England, in 1995 and 1997.

Mark Anthony Taylor was born on Oct. 27, 1964, in Leeton, New South Wales. He made his Test debut for Australia in 1988. He played 104 Test matches, scoring more than 7,525 runs at an average of 43.49 runs an innings. He retired from Test cricket in 1999. He was named Australian of the Year that year.
