Tebbit, Norman (1931-…), a British Conservative Party politician, was chairman of his party from 1985 to 1987. He served as secretary of state for trade and industry from 1983 to 1985 and as chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster from 1985 to 1987.
Norman Beresford Tebbit was born on March 29, 1931, in London. He was educated at Edmonton County Grammar School, in north London. He worked briefly in publishing and advertising and then became an airline pilot. Tebbit became a member of Parliament in 1970. After holding some minor government posts, he became secretary of state for employment in 1981. He was made a life peer in 1992.
