Thursday is the fifth day of the week. The ancient Norsemen considered the day sacred to Thor, the Teutonic god of thunder. The name means Thor’s day. This is probably a translation of the Latin dies Jovis, meaning Jove’s day, for Jove, or Jupiter, the Roman god of thunder. See also Thor; Week.
