Ticking is a strong fabric used chiefly to cover mattresses and pillows. It is woven closely of strong yarn so that cotton felt, feathers, curled horsehair, and other fillings for bedding do not leak out. Ticking may be made of cotton, synthetic fibers, or a blend of cotton and synthetic fibers. It may be produced in a twill, herringbone twill, or jacquard weave. See Twill .
