Transfiguration

Transfiguration was the change in physical appearance that came over Jesus Christ on one occasion during His ministry. It is described in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. According to these Gospels, Jesus took Peter, James, and John up on a mountain, and permitted them to see Him in splendor, with His face shining like the sun, and His garments bright with light. Then the Old Testament figures of Moses and Elijah came to talk with Christ. Many artists have portrayed the Transfiguration. One of the greatest paintings on the subject is the altarpiece The Transfiguration by the Italian artist Raphael.
