Treasure-trove is a term applied to articles containing a substantial amount of gold or silver that have been hidden and are later discovered in a house or in the ground. In some countries, the finder receives all the property. In others, the property may be divided between the finder and the owner of the land. In the United Kingdom, all treasure-trove belongs by law to the Crown. The finder or the person who owns the land on which the treasure was found cannot keep the treasure but receives a payment based on the value of the property found.
