Tribunal is a court of justice appointed to examine special evidence or appeals. Tribunals are formed to arbitrate (judge) in industrial disputes, investigate accusations made against a government, and to consider appeals made by individuals against the state. Many professional organizations maintain tribunals that exercise control over members of the profession. Some countries use military tribunals—special courts run by military authorities—to try civilians accused of certain serious crimes. See also Arbitration .
