Trillium

Trillium, << TRIHL ee uhm, >> is a wildflower that grows in damp, wooded places in the United States, Canada, and Asia. There are dozens of species (kinds). The flowers have three sepals, three petals, and six stamens. Each stem bears one flower and three leaves. Trilliums are often called wake-robins because some kinds bloom when the robins return north. The best-known trillium is the white trillium. It grows from New England to the Carolinas and west to Minnesota. The painted trillium is the most colorful. Its white flowers have deep pink or purple stripes. It grows from Quebec to Georgia and as far west as Michigan and Tennessee.
