Trogon

Trogon, << TROH gon, >> is a group of colorful tropical birds. Trogons live in both the Eastern and the Western hemispheres. The head and back of adult males are metallic green, blue, or violet. The underparts are red, orange, or yellow. Females resemble males but have duller colors on the head and back. A trogon has a short, strong bill. Two of its toes point forward and two backward. Its feet are small and weak. The female lays two to four white, pale blue, or pale green eggs. The nestlings are naked when hatched. African and Asian trogons feed mostly on insects. American trogons eat fruits and insects. See also Quetzal.
