Umber

Umber is a brown mineral pigment used to color inks, paints, and paper. It is made from an ore composed mostly of iron oxide. This ore is ground, washed, and dried to make raw umber. When raw umber is calcined (heated), it becomes burnt umber, which is a deep red. The ore was first found in Umbria, Italy.
