Uris, Leon

Uris, << YUR ihs, >> Leon (1924-2003), was an American author. He became known for his best-selling novels based on modern historical events.

During World War II (1939-1945), Uris served in the United States Marine Corps. He drew on his war experiences in his first novel, Battle Cry (1953). Exodus (1958) is a love story set against the founding of the state of Israel. His other novels include The Angry Hills (1955), Mila 18 (1961), Armageddon (1964), Topaz (1967), QB VII (1970), Trinity (1976), The Haj (1984), Mitla Pass (1988), and A God in Ruins (1999). Leon Marcus Uris was born on Aug. 3, 1924, in Baltimore. He died on June 21, 2003.
